If yr going to San Francisco...

Don't where damn flowers in yr hair, get tattooed and pierced as that's the new "look" here (and probably everywhere). Sorry for not posting for ages my Nan had been ill and passed in August. So I took this trip to SF (thx Nan - I luvs ya still)for some respite care. Great here seen one of the finest alt country bands ever Or, the Whale Saw them at 12 Galaxies on the Mission. There unsigned but someone should look them up and get them on a label. A 7 piece mixed girl/guy band, a fine lap steel player Tessa Turner- great full on live experience. Check 'em out, they have one self released 7" available from Amoeba on Haight in SF - ask for Corey there she's a big fan. Udder stuff I done, drove doen the Big Sur, cycled thru Golden Gate Park, met up with a friend of a friend who works at City Lights, walked from Haight to thr Golden Gate Bridge and back again (a 6/7hr experience). Got my ears pierced (see previous comments) at Soul Patch by a guy who new Bugsy at Evil from the Needle in London. Lots of random meetings with people who new people i vaguely knew also including people from the same town as my Dad's wife. Off to theShoe Garden in Alamo Square this morning. Wish me luck! Back in London Sundat afternoon and I gather Blair is not there...

Nikki Sudden

Just read that Nikki Sudden also died recently. It's been a bit of a RnR death disco this past few months. Luckily these guys at least didn't fulfill the live fast die young credo.

It's Cold and Dusty in Here...

Grant MaClennan dies. I fell in love listening to 16 Lovers Lane during a scottish summer in 1989. Sorely missed, dearly loved.

Laudanum Sir?

As an addenda to the Rimbaud/Verlaine post, I recently discovered that you can make opium tea/tincture from your common garden poppies. So, I've amended the soil in my garden and planted a little patch. If I don't get raided by the law or the DEA ala Jim Hogshire I'll let you know the outcome late summer.

Go Rimbaud! (and Verlaine of course...)

To us squalid literary Camden types it's always been a case of schadenfrauden seeing the derelict state of the house where Rimabud and Verlaine bedded down. Now there's a campaign to stop it being sold off to developers. I say let's set it up as a modern day opium den where you can imbibe the poison of yr choice and retire upstairs for a quick anal massage.

fruit covered nails

By jeeves! I'm not making good use of this blogging lark am I? Suffice to say in the past couple of months i've got a new job, been listening to The Woods by Sleater Kinney, new Quasi record, elliott smith too much, reading a guilty read - The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, read My Life in Orange, Monsters of Gramercy Park, the new Easton Eliis i forgets the name, and a host of udder stuff. Watched Syriana (v good) want to watch the Hills Have Eyes remake, Inside Man lah blah blah. Need better drugs and better sex. If anyone can provide either please contact me now! Things to look forward too: summer, homefires, bank holidays, better sex and better drugs...
RIP Ivor Cutler

we can only go where the traffic goes...

reading Dave Eggers eulogy to The June Brides in The Guardian today got me thinking about the eight million other stories about mid 80's UK indie mainly the marvellous Jasmine Minks. Do you need direction?
